SPRING
The awakening of nature in an explosion of colours. The first warm drafts after
the winter cold make you wish to enjoy the outer spaces. Spring is the ideal
season for relaxing walks along the shores of the Lake
of Barrea or for sight-seeing
tours of the three ancient villages facing the Lake: Barrea,
Civitella Alfedena and Villetta Barrea, but also for a short
trekking along the paths of the Park
and up to the snowless mountain peaks. First barbecues in
the open spaces of the Casone.. with the romantic thought of a fire-place still
lit up. Ideal season for photo-amateurs because of the thousand green shades
of nature. Easter at Barrea can become a unique occasion for watching the spectacular
and moving rite of the Living Passion of Christ (that is “lived” by the whole
village), and for last skiing on the tracks of Roccaraso, Pescasseroli and Passo
Godi.
SUMMER
The holiday season, the most crowded but, not for this, less fascinating. At
the Casone, you can fully enjoy the outdoor spaces in the shade of lime-trees
and century-old beech-trees. Engaging mountain
trekking, far from the madding
summer crowd, with the relaxing feeling of having a quiet place where to rest
once you are back. For the lazy ones, relaxing lake-bathing and
various lake activities. You can also have your choice between horse-riding in
the mountains or mountain-bike riding
on the cycling-tracks nearby. In the evening, barbecues and bonfires, night walks
under the stars in the Park that the night makes more mysterious. Or you can
walk around the small villages, looking for a “sagra” (village food-festival)
like the “sagra of orapi” (local vegetables) at
Barrea. Just make your choice and relax.
AUTUMN
Maybe the best season for a holiday at
the Casone. We recommend it for the beauty of nature
colours: yellow, orange, red and violet characterise a landscape that
is still marked by the sky deep blue.
You can enjoy bright and clear days walking in the century-old beech-tree woods
of the Park, looking for mush-rooms
and chest-nuts.
The best season to discover picturesque and incontaminated natural spots: Lago
vivo, La Camosciara, Val Fondello are only some of the places that autumn
can reveal in all their splendour. In the evening, you can relax and get warm
in front of a fire-place with a glass of wine while the “polenta” (a dish made
with corn) is cooking in the kitchen. A good time for short and satisfying gastronomic
tours looking for a typical local dish and for visiting the local arts
and crafts shops half hidden in the silent streets of the lake villages.
WINTER
The bad winter cold at the Casone is the time when you can enjoy the warm temperature
inside while watching the snow-flakes falling
down . The lovers of winter
sportscan easily reach the most famous ski resorts: Roccaraso (30
minutes by car) and
Pescasseroli (20 minutes). For the long-distance
ski lovers , there is Passo
Godi that is an excellent ski resort; however the entire area is by now
well equipped for the winter sports. During the Christmas period, there are many
traditional festivals going on like the Barrea
Crib and the torch-light
procession at Civitella
Alfedena. The Casone can be very fascinating
during the winter. |
